Safety and comfort are the allies of any construction workers footwear armoury
Often, when choosing a pair of safety shoes or boots for work, it is easy to overlook the need for comfort in the search for the most suitable safety features. The fact that the safety boots are chemical resistant, have steel toecaps and mid soles, are slip resistant and waterproof is fine as far as protecting your feet is concerned, but keeping your feet healthy is also about letting them breathe and cushioning them from the impact of walking and working day in day out. A good pair of safety shoes, for which you may have to pay slightly over the odds, should allow your feet to breathe and be made from materials which dissipate moisture. Inability to satisfy these criteria not only leads to ‘sweaty feet’ but also can allow fungal infections such as Athletes Foot to develop, which ultimately can lead to time off work if not treated. Also, the sheer fatigue and potential damage to your feet of wearing uncomfortable and poorly designed safety boots adds to an already demanding job in many cases and can be a cause of discomfort and stress. Always pay extra for comfort as well as safety and both you and your feet will feel the benefit.
