I have found that finding a piece of wood or laminate to practice with so that you get the idea is best when starting to learn how to faux finish. They sell many items to do faux finishing at several department stores now to. Thats were you can find the gold crackle. Make sure the item that you are going to finish has been cleaned and is prepped. Some items, like laminate, may need a light sanding. Use a base paint and then take a sponge brush and gently pull the brush through the paint. You can use different colors to add depth.
